EUPeace Crisis Conversations – Attitudes Toward Immigration as a Symptom of the Ills of Late Modernity

Start: 19 May 2026 16:00

The fourth session of the EUPeace Crisis Conversations series, hosted by Comillas Pontifical University, will explore the topic “Attitudes Toward Immigration as a Symptom of the Ills of Late Modernity“.

Drawing on data from the Ikuspegi Barometer our Guest speaker Gorka Moreno Márques (University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea) will analyse evolving attitudes toward immigration from a long-term perspective and discuss their connection to the rise of far-right movements in Europe and beyond. The discussion will explore whether these political developments are symptoms, causes, or consequences of changing perceptions of migration.

Building on this reflection, the session will engage with broader debates surrounding democracy, globalisation, gender relations, and the future of political categories such as the left-right divide. Through dialogue and debate, participants will examine whether the concepts that have shaped modernity remain relevant today or require fundamental rethinking.
