16.07.2025 EUPeace Information Session at the University of Sarajevo: Commitment to Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies

An information session on EUPeace – the European University Alliance for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies – was held on 9 June 2025 in the Grand Hall of the University of Sarajevo Rectorate.
The event was opened by Professor Kemal Durić, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, who emphasised the importance of the University of Sarajevo’s membership in this prestigious European alliance. He also highlighted the key objectives of EUPeace: the promotion of peace, social justice, and the building of an inclusive, responsible society.
Through a presentation and a panel discussion, participants received a detailed overview of EUPeace’s activities and strategic directions. Professor Kemal Durić, EUPeace Academic Coordinator at the University of Sarajevo, presented the activities implemented so far and outlined future plans.
The panel discussion featured the leaders of the work packages – Professor Sarina Bakić, Professor Mirzana Pašić-Kodrić, Dr Jasna Bošnjović, Dr Mariana Hadžijusufović, and Professor Dženana Husremović – who presented concrete thematic areas and projects within the alliance.
A particular focus was placed on the wide range of opportunities that EUPeace offers to students, researchers, academic and administrative staff. Participants learned more about joint curricula, international master’s programmes, the awarding of micro-credentials, the organisation of summer and winter schools, specialist courses, international placements, as well as innovative initiatives such as the Living Peace Lab, which connects universities with local communities and thematic research centres.
During the discussion, the importance of international mobility was especially emphasised. Key initiatives such as the integration of short-term mobility into curricula, the development of a digital and virtual campus, and the Erasmus Without Papers system were presented, all aimed at simplifying and broadening access to mobility for students and staff. It was underlined that university alliances such as EUPeace are not merely formal projects; they are collaborative spaces where European universities jointly build a platform for the education and development of young leaders committed to the values of peace, justice, and social inclusion.
One of the most inspiring moments of the session was the example of student engagement within the Student Parliament of the EUPeace Alliance. They embraced an initiative launched by students from the University of Sarajevo to jointly organise the signing of the Student Declaration on Peace in Sarajevo—an event aimed at bringing together students from the region and other European countries to publicly express their commitment to peace and European values. The information session was organised as part of the 13th International Staff Week, which brought together 44 representatives of teaching and administrative staff from 29 higher education institutions across 16 countries.
By joining the EUPeace Alliance, the University of Sarajevo is actively contributing to the creation of an integrated European area of higher education, research, and social progress, reaffirming its institutional commitment to build a competitive, resilient, and innovative university. Together with its partners, it is laying the foundations for a more peaceful, just, and inclusive future.
EUPeace is not merely a project – it is a partnership we are building together, shaping the future of our university and society.
