From 20 to 22 June 2025, Leon Hebeisen, student at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) represented the Student Council of European University Alliance EUPeace at the Foro Joven de Acción por la Sostenibilidad y contra el Cambio Climático (Youth Forum for Sustainability and Against Climate Change), hosted by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) within the ERUA – European Reform University Alliance.

The forum brought together students from across Europe to engage in dialogue around sustainable transformation, student-led action and inter-alliance cooperation. It was an inspiring and enriching experience that offered fresh perspectives and valuable input for the work of EUPeace.

As part of the programme, Leon Hebeisen, a mathematics student, facilitated a workshop titled “The Power of Statistics: Uncovering Data Manipulation”, exploring the role of data literacy in tackling global challenges and empowering informed decision-making — a topic of growing importance within European higher education.

Hebeisen was also invited to join the ERUA Student Board meeting, where he presented EUPeace, shared insights into the Alliance’s structure, and discussed opportunities for future collaboration — including joint student initiatives, inter-alliance events and innovative formats for academic exchange.

Hebeisen summed up his experience as followed: “What did I take away from this experience? Above all, a strong sense that dialogue and cooperation between European university alliances is not only possible but essential if we aim to shape a more sustainable and inclusive future for higher education. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at ULPGC, to ERUA, and to all the dedicated students who made these days so impactful. I look forward to building on this momentum — for EUPeace, for ERUA, and for a united European student movement.”
