The Conference:
For the second edition of the Teaching Europe Conference, and the first in-person edition, the objective is to gather educators, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders with a shared commitment: to re-imagine education not just as a system for transferring knowledge, but as a powerful force for inclusion, justice, and democratic participation across Europe.
Across Europe, education is at a critical juncture. As societal challenges intensify—ranging from social inequality and democratic backsliding to migration and climate change—educators are called upon to re-imagine the role of learning in building a more inclusive, just, and participatory Europe.
This conference invites researchers, policymakers, and civil society actors to explore how innovative, learner-centered pedagogies can bridge the gap between formal education and civic engagement, preparing students not only for the workforce but for democratic life. We seek contributions that reflect on the transformative potential of education in fostering equity, inclusion, and active citizenship.
Topics of interest may include (but are by no means limited to):
- Pedagogical innovation: Learner-centered teaching strategies that empower student agency and voice
- Work-based learning: microcredentials, valorization of internships
- Education for democracy: Integrating civic learning, critical thinking, and participatory practice in classrooms
- Social justice and inclusion: Teaching practices that address systemic inequalities and foster belonging
- Cross-sector partnerships: Collaborations between schools, universities, and organizations
- Digital and hybrid learning: Using technology to enhance democratic participation and inclusivity
- Teacher training and professional development for inclusive and civic-minded education
- Policy frameworks and institutional support for bridging formal education and civic goals
- Student activism and youth-led initiatives in and beyond educational settings
