12.09.2025 Join the EUPeace Creative Space “Beyond the Places of Pain – A Multimedia Exhibition” on 24 September 2025 at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen

In this interdisciplinary exhibition, we explore the intersections of social science, visual art and collective memory, focusing on how creative expression can engage with the lasting impacts of war, trauma, and displacement. Anchored in the memory and representation of the 1992–1995 Bosnian War, with particular attention to the Srebrenica genocide, this Creative Space builds on the collaboration of a visual artist and an anthropologist—both direct witnesses to the conflict—who reimagine the role of art in both scholarly and public discourse.
The creative space will present Beyond the Places of Pain, a digital multimedia exhibition featuring photographs, archival materials, drawings, sound, video, and narrative texts. Through this work, we invite critical reflection on personal and collective experiences of trauma, resilience and remembrance. The exhibition honours the individuality and humanity of genocide victims, often reduced to statistics or erased by dominant narratives, while highlighting the strength of survivors and their stories. By blending documentary, ethnographic, and artistic methods, this Creative Space aims to challenge conventional boundaries between the subjective and objective, ethics and aesthetics, the local and global, and the past and present.
The Creative Space features contributions from:
- Dr. Adis Elias Fejzić (Visual artist and part-time lecturer, Academy of Fine Arts, University of Sarajevo; Research Assistant at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia)
- Prof. Dr. Hariz Halilovich (School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia)
- Prof. Dr. Sarina Bakić (Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Join us to reflect, question, and co-create narratives that transcend places of pain, building bridges between art, memory, and social justice. Together, we will consider how the politics of memory, justice, and human rights can be critically addressed through artistic and scholarly collaboration.
If you are interested in learning more about the Creative Space, a detailed description will be available in the Conference Programme of the EUPeace Conference 2025.
