On 22 May, the Chair for Energy and Poverty at Comillas Pontifical University held the second session of the LivingLab Forum Against Energy Poverty, as part of the EUPeace Alliance. The event concluded with highly valuable outcomes, providing a clear and shared vision for designing an effective Social Roundtable to combat energy poverty in Spain.

A Collaborative Approach with Strong Proposals

The session, titled “Towards a Social Roundtable on Energy Poverty: Participation and Collaboration,” combined presentations, experience-sharing, and participatory work. It began with an overview of the EnerPeace project roadmap and its LivingLab, followed by an introduction to the concept of social roundtables, highlighting key elements for their design and functioning.

One of the most enriching moments was the contribution from Joan Corominas, founding member of the Andalusian Water Roundtable, who shared insights from participatory governance processes in complex contexts.

Collective Work with Institutional Impact

Participants engaged in group activities to co-design a social roundtable to address energy poverty. Discussions focused on its scope, functions, participating entities, operational methodology, and mechanisms for detecting energy poverty.

The outcomes of this collective effort will be compiled and systematized by the Chair’s team and sent to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). The aim is for these contributions to inform the development of the upcoming National Strategy Against Energy Poverty (ENPE) 2025–2030.

Next Session in July

The next LivingLab Forum session will take place during the first half of July, continuing the collaborative reflection process and reinforcing a commitment to a just energy transition that prioritises people in vulnerable situations.
