25.06.2025 EUPeace at the Marburg Networking Event for Democracy and Against Right-Wing Extremism
On 24 June 2025, the European University Alliance EUPeace took part in the networking event hosted by the Marburg Network for Democracy and Against Right-Wing Extremism, held at the Lokschuppen in Marburg.

On 24 June 2025, the Lokschuppen in Marburg became a vibrant hub for democratic dialogue and civic engagement, as the European University Alliance EUPeace joined the Marburg Network for Democracy and Against Right-Wing Extremism for a powerful day of exchange and collaboration.
With a dedicated information stand, EUPeace showcased its mission as a cross-border educational initiative that goes beyond academic boundaries - championing democratic values, fostering international cooperation, and promoting social responsibility across Europe. Alliance representatives engaged actively with participants, sharing ideas and sparking conversations about how higher education can be a driving force for societal change.
Also present were the CIM Hub and the Office for Anti-discrimination and Diversity - both integral partners within the EUPeace network - who amplified the alliance’s presence with their own engaging displays and perspectives on inclusion and equality.
The event kicked off with thought-provoking keynote speeches by Professor Dr Ursula Birsl (Philipps University Marburg) and Dr Reiner Becker (Democracy Centre of Hesse), who tackled the timely question: “The Future of Democracy – Democracy of the Future: Do We Need New Alliances Between Academia and Civil Society?”
This was followed by a lively panel discussion and an innovative “speed-dating” format that brought together voices from academia, civil society, and higher education. The result: a dynamic and informal space that encouraged fresh ideas, new connections, and a shared commitment to safeguarding democracy—today and for the future.
As a dynamic alliance of European universities, EUPeace is committed not only to fostering academic exchange but also to actively contributing to a democratic and solidarity-based Europe. The networking event offered a valuable platform to advance these goals. We sincerely thank the organisers for the invitation and look forward to continued collaboration.
