After a successful and enriching first visit in 2024, the Marburg University (UMR) and Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) were pleased to welcome again a group of 37 student teachers and three accompanying colleagues from the EUPeace partner University of Limoges (UNILIM) from 12-18 May. The aim of the visit was to get to know the German school system.

The week started on 13 May with the visit of three schools in Giessen, including the EUPeace associate partner Gesamtschule Giessen Ost. The group was introduced to school concepts and had the chance to observe classes. In the afternoon, the students attended one session of the lecture "Children’s questions and philosophising with children" (Primary School Didactics) where they had the opportunity to work in mixed groups on specific assignments. They were also introduced to the topic of inclusion in Germany by getting to know JLU’s Institute for Special Needs Education and Inclusive Education. On 14 May, the self-learn workshop of the Department of Romance Studies opened their doors to acquaint the students with different techniques of counselling students and pupils on language learning, especially French.

The guests came to Marburg the next day on 15 May. They had a guided tour through the old town about the history of the city and fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. In the evening, they had the opportunity to network with students from Marburg University at a pentanque tournament. On Friday, 16 May, the students visited three schools in Marburg. They were able to reflect on their impressions at Richtsbergschule, Steinmühle Marburg and Deutsche Blindenstudienanstalt (Blista) with Prof. Nina Meister and discussed inclusion in the German and French school systems with her. Two students from Marburg University rounded off the evening with our guests at a pub crawl in the city. At the end of the week, the guests had the opportunity to visit the archaeological museum Zeiteninsel, which is also an extracurricular learning space on the history of mankind.

The students and teachers from Limoges had an eventful and productive week in Giessen and Marburg and we are looking forward to next year's visits.
