The European Track (EUTrack) and the Virtual European Exchange Programme (VEEP)

What’s it about?

The European Track is an interdisciplinary certificate programme in which students can choose from a diverse range of courses offered across the Alliance’s nine universities in person, virtually or in a hybrid format. Students can earn up to three certificates recognising the knowledge and skills they have acquired by studying abroad for one semester, one year, or by participating in a short ‘Blended Intensive Programme’ (BIP).

What’s the objective?

Firmly aligned with EUPeace’s core values, the EUTrack is shaping education and curricular development across the Alliance. With a strong emphasis on virtual mobility through VEEP, student participation has increased rapidly, from just 10 VEEP mobilities in winter 2024/25 to 275 mobilities in winter 2025/26.

Who’s it for?

The European Track is developed for all students across the Alliance’s partner institutions. Curricular content for the European Track is developed by the Alliance’s teachers and lecturers.

How are we doing this?

The European Track was designed with maximum flexibility, allowing it to adapt to the diverse institutional contexts within the Alliance and to remain accessible and appealing to a wide range of students. This flexible structure also enables the concept to be adapted for different Alliances with varied disciplinary and thematic orientations.

What’s the outcome?

The European Track is shaping education and curricular development across EUPeace. With a strong focus on virtual mobility through the Virtual European Exchange Programme (VEEP), student participation has grown rapidly. In addition, 220 courses and modules of the European Track have been made available for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 pilot academic years.

Further information

European Track (EUTrack)

It is one of our flagships. It’s a highly distinctive cross-Alliance certificate designed to educate our students as the engaged and informed European citizens and changemakers of tomorrow – with a strongly interdisciplinary focus on the European values of peace, justice, and inclusive societies.

Course Repository

You can find the complete current EUPeace course offer in our Course Repository, which is available via our Mobility Portal.

IMPACT
The number of offered courses and joint courses as well as the number of participating students indicate that the European Track is playing a major role in increasing internationalisation in terms of international exposure and international cooperation among lecturers and students.

CHALLENGES
Challenges included differing curricula across partner institutions, misaligned semester dates limiting student mobility, and low incentives for virtual education post-pandemic. These were addressed through a flexible programme design, strategic publicity, framing varying sign-up dates as flexibility, and providing lecturers with guides and online resources.

CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS
While final conclusions will follow after the pilot phase, the value of flexibility, adaptability and agility is already clear. A simple and coherent core concept, combined with minimal administrative rules, increases attractiveness and accessibility for all stakeholders.
