Academic Programme

Europe is facing turbulent times. Wars and geopolitical rivalries have returned to its neighbourhood, while democratic values and the rule of law are increasingly under pressure—even within the European Union. Right-wing populism, authoritarian tendencies, and ongoing debates about migration challenge the foundations of liberal democracy and European integration.

Special Offer for EUPeace Students

As part of the collaboration within the EUPeace Alliance, up to three students per EUPeace partner university can receive a tuition waiver. The remaining cost for room and board is €700.

The International Summer University explores what these developments mean for politics, law, and society in Germany and Europe. Through interdisciplinary perspectives from history, political science, law, and cultural studies, participants will gain deeper insight into current conflicts—and discuss ways to strengthen democracy and overcome division.

The ISU is comprised of one German language course (weeks 1-4), one “German History and Politics” course (weeks 1-2), and two academic seminars (week 1+2 and week 3+4) to be chosen from four available modules (History, Politics, Law, Culture) each. The academic programme is complemented by three field trips. Prior German language skills are not required.

The participation guidelines for the International Summer University (ISU) are available in English and German. All questions can be directed to isu@uni-marburg.de.
