On 26-27 November, Jaime Villaverde Rivero, professor in the Department of International Relations and member of the EUPeace team, represented the Alliance at the European conference “Joint and Double Programmes in Europe” in Lodz, Poland.
The event brought together experts from across the continent to discuss the challenges and opportunities of joint and double degree programmes amid growing internationalisation and the advancement of the European Education Area.
Organised by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System in collaboration with the European Commission and several national higher education agencies — including Spain’s — the conference created a unique space for dialogue and cooperation among academics, internationalisation officers, national agencies, and European institutions.
The sessions were structured around thematic panels addressing key issues for the future of joint and double programmes in Europe, such as:
- The role of European university alliances
- Remaining legal and administrative obstacles
- Accreditation mechanisms for degrees
- The contribution of micro-credentials
- Prospects for developing a European Joint Degree

As highlighted through EUPeace, Comillas’ participation reinforces its commitment to building a more integrated European educational space, promoting academic cooperation and the development of innovative programmes that foster mobility and academic excellence.
“Participating in this conference helped broaden my understanding of transnational programmes in a context where internationalisation is increasingly strategic for our universities,” said Jaime Villaverde Rivero.
