Students at Comillas Pontifical University formally presented the Students’ Peace Declaration to the university’s Rector, Antonio Allende, SJ. The declaration was signed in September in Sarajevo by students from more than one hundred European universities participating in the EUPeace initiative.
The ceremony took place on the Cantoblanco campus, with the participation of the Rector; the Vice-Rector for Strategy, Internationalisation and Academic Planning, Elisa Aracil; members of the teaching and research staff; and administrative personnel engaged in the alliance.
Comillas’ Commitment to Social Impact and International Collaboration
Rector Allende expressed his gratitude to all those contributing to EUPeace and highlighted the importance of peace-building: “Peace is something we all aspire to, and something we know is very fragile.” He noted that the initiative reflects the values of the university and the positive impact students can have on society. Vice-Rector Aracil emphasised how Comillas’ involvement in EUPeace aligns with the university’s social mission and international vocation, and she underscored the unique cross-faculty collaboration fostered by the alliance.
EUPeace Students Lead the Way
Students played a central role in the event, highlighting both their growing engagement in the EUPeace alliance and their commitment to its values. Adriana Pacios, co-founder of the Comillas EUPeace student club, described the group’s rapid development and dedication to promoting peace, justice, and social inclusion. Nicolás del Río reflected on the symbolic importance of signing the declaration in Sarajevo as a testament to younger generations’ commitment to coexistence and democratic values. The ceremony concluded with students Claudia Martínez and Inés Mouvet reading the main articles of the Declaration and formally presenting it to the Rector and Vice-Rector in recognition of the institution’s support.
