EUPeace Steering Committee Sets Strategic Priorities for the Alliance’s Next Phase

Meeting at the University of Mostar, the EUPeace Steering Committee reviewed mid-term progress and defined key priorities to strengthen impact, quality culture and long-term sustainability across the Alliance.

In January 2026, the University of Mostar hosted the latest meeting of the EUPeace Steering Committee at the SUMIT Centre. Members gathered to review the Alliance’s mid-term progress and define the strategic priorities that will shape EUPeace’s development in the coming months.

From Mid-Term Review to Strategic Consolidation

Building on the analysis of activities and milestones achieved so far, the Steering Committee focused on how to further consolidate structures and translate project implementation into lasting institutional development. Particular attention was given to strengthening quality assurance mechanisms, clarifying governance processes and preparing the Alliance for its next phase beyond the current funding period.

Among the key priorities for the coming months are the validation of the Strategic Action Plan and the Code of Conduct during the Spring Meetings, the finalisation of the Quality Culture Framework, and preparatory work enabling the Governing Board to take informed decisions regarding the long-term future of EUPeace.

As the Chair of the Steering Committee emphasised:

The Steering Committee is up and running, with dedicated and committed members who are willing to bring their expertise and contribution to transforming what can still be perceived as a technocratic project into a structured institution respecting the values and specificities of its individual members.

Strengthening Impact and Institutional Visibility

Beyond governance matters, discussions also addressed how EUPeace can more clearly demonstrate the tangible outcomes of its work in education, research and societal dialogue. Members agreed that strengthening impact analysis and making results more visible across partner institutions and towards external stakeholders will be a central task in the coming phase.

By aligning strategic planning with clearer impact monitoring and communication, the Alliance aims to ensure that its activities are not only implemented effectively, but also measurable, understandable and sustainable.

The Secretary General of EUPeace underlined this forward-looking perspective:

Thanks to the leadership of the Steering Committee, the entire Alliance is more determined than ever to drive its EU-funded project forward, leveraging the diverse expertise and dedication of all our partners. Together, we are not only checking progress and implementing activities, but building up the reality of an Alliance for our students, lecturers, researchers, and staff.

Building the Reality of a European University Alliance

The meeting in Mostar reflected a broader shift within EUPeace: from establishing project structures to embedding the Alliance more firmly within the daily academic and institutional life of its member universities. With strengthened governance instruments, clearer quality standards and enhanced impact monitoring, EUPeace continues its transition towards a sustainable and visible European University Alliance dedicated to peace, justice and inclusive societies.
