The Societal Dialogue Group plays a central role in ensuring that EUPeace’s activities remain open, inclusive, and connected to society. Its core mission is to design and implement Bridge Dialogue formats, which provide structured environments for active and ongoing exchange between universities, students, civil society, and external stakeholders. Inspired by living-lab approaches, these formats make dialogue a permanent feature of the Alliance, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and integrated into academic work.
Through these formats, student engagement and the concerns of society—from aspirations to fears—are brought into teaching and research. This participatory approach encourages the formation of co-creating teams where academics, practitioners, and citizens collaborate on shared challenges. Topics emerging from these exchanges do not remain abstract but are translated into specific activities that set impulses across all facets of our work, with particular impact on outreach and engagement efforts.
The design of the Bridge Dialogue formats draws inspiration from established models internationally, as well as locally at the level of the universities. By adapting these successful practices to its own context, EUPeace ensures formats that are both innovative and relevant to the themes of peace, justice, and inclusive societies.
One key Bridge Dialogue format involves moving beyond traditional university settings to create opportunities for community engagement in non-university venues. This approach allows EUPeace offers to connect more directly with local communities, embedding real-world perspectives into the curriculum. Working with external stakeholders, the focus will be on developing work-based learning models that link academic knowledge with social responsibility. Successful precedents already exist within the Alliance, fostering applied cooperation in peace and security studies, or embedding community-oriented projects across disciplines.
By coordinating these activities, the Societal Dialogue Group ensures that dialogue is not just a one-off event but a continuous and systemic process. The Bridge Formats it develops are designed to spark creativity, strengthen civic engagement, and open new pathways for cooperation between research, teaching, and society. In this way, EUPeace connects academic expertise with lived realities, ensuring that its commitment to peace, justice, and inclusion is grounded in participatory practice and meaningful impact.
