Developing Peer Education Initiatives – University of Sarajevo

Summary

The project explores the integral role of youth in understanding and combating violence within their social environments. Recognizing that violence—be it physical, verbal, psychological, institutional, or socio-economic—varies significantly across different contexts, this initiative emphasizes the importance of contextualizing violence as a barrier to human self-realization. Through the lens of young people’s experiences, the project aims to address the multifaceted nature of violence, including its intersection with rigid gender roles and socio-economic disparities.

This project asserts that effective violence prevention must be dynamic and context-aware, necessitating continuous evaluation and adaptation of strategies. Central to its approach is the meaningful involvement of young people, who are recognised as crucial partners in both understanding and addressing violence. By engaging youth in the development and implementation of preventative measures, the project fosters strategies rooted in their lived experiences and specific challenges. This peer education model, underscores the necessity of involving young people not merely as recipients of education but as active contributors to its creation.
