Building on Two Years of Cooperation – EUPeace Partners Meet in Mostar

A delegation from Marburg University visited the University of Mostar to review progress and discuss future activities within the EUPeace Alliance. The visit focused on strengthening cooperation and planning the next phase of joint initiatives.

A delegation from Marburg University visited the University of Mostar on 4 March 2026 as part of the ongoing cooperation within the EUPeace Alliance. The visit brought together representatives of both institutions to review the progress achieved during the first two years of the Alliance and to discuss future joint activities.

Reviewing progress within the Alliance

The delegation from Marburg included Prof. Dr Evelyn Korn, Chair of the EUPeace Governing Board and Deputy President of Marburg University, alongside Steering Committee member Petra Kienle, Head of the Department of International Affairs and Family Services at Marburg University, and Alexandre Wipf, Secretary-General of the EUPeace Alliance.

Representing the University of Mostar at the meeting were Vice-Rector for Science Prof. Marko Odak, Assistant Rector for International Relations Prof. Sanja Bijakšić, Assistant Rector for Quality Assurance and Publishing Prof. Josip Šimić, Assistant Rector for Business Operations and Human Resources Prof. Zdenko Klepić, and Assistant Rector for Teaching and Students Prof. Goran Šunjić.

During the meeting, leaders of the work packages and members of the Education Board presented the activities carried out so far and discussed the results achieved since the start of the project.  Particular attention was given to initiatives organised by the University of Mostar and their contribution to the Alliance’s wider objectives. Representatives of the University of Mostar also highlighted their key achievements and outlined the current challenges.

Strengthening cooperation and planning next steps

The discussions also focused on planning upcoming activities and exploring opportunities for further collaboration between partner institutions. Participants discussed the strategic direction of the Alliance and outlined the broad framework for the next joint project.

Special attention was devoted to the work of the Education Board, as the University of Mostar has taken on the role of Chair. In this capacity, the University will play an important role in coordinating educational initiatives and supporting the further development of joint academic activities within the Alliance.

The discussions also addressed the upcoming Spring Meetings in Calabria, which will provide an opportunity for partners to continue these conversations in person.

Exploring research and learning environments

As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Museum of Modern Art of the University of Mostar and the new SUMIT building. During their visit to the museum, they were guided through the exhibition Oblak u glavi by curators Toni Barać and Dinko Baković. The visit provided insight into the university’s research and educational infrastructure and its role in supporting international scientific and academic cooperation.
