EUPeace commemorates European Diversity Month with a series of lectures in May

In celebration of European Diversity Month, EUPeace will host a series of lectures and webinars in the month of May that focus on various topics of diversity issues.

The EUPeace Alliance is committed to fostering more peaceful, just and inclusive societies. With the aim of raising awareness for the significance of diversity and inclusion, EUPeace commemorates European Diversity Month by organising a series of lectures in the month of May that focus on various diversity issues.

The series includes the following six events:

  • 5 MayCommunity as a Solution: Adressing Identity and Mental Health of Second-Gen Migrants | 10:00-11:30 (CEST) | online | TAMly (University of West Bohemia in Pilsen) | No registration required| Link
    • TAMly, a youth-led initiative, presents a case study on building a successful Solidarity Project. This session explores how community-driven action can address the unique mental health and identity challenges faced by second-generation Vietnamese migrants in the Czech Republic.
  • 5 May –  Digital Violence: Why and How? | 15:30-16:30 (CEST) | online | Pınar İlkiz (Çukurova University) | No registration required | Link 
    • How can we build safer and more inclusive digital spaces? Equality, diversity, and inclusion across digital platforms are at the heart of a fair digital future. Pınar İlkiz will discuss Digital Violence – Why and How? and explore the causes, impacts, and ways to respond to violence in online environments.

  • 14 MayFrom Policy to Practice: Making Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Work in Higher Education Institutions | 10:00-11:00 (CEST) | online | Dr. Charles Omboto (University of West Bohemia in Pilsen) | No registration required | Link
    • This session explores how Higher Education Institutions can move beyond policy commitments to implement meaningful and sustainable Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) practices. It highlights practical strategies, institutional approaches, and lived experiences from students and staff to demonstrate how inclusive environments can be created, strengthened, and sustained across teaching, learning, and support systems to promote empathy-driven change in higher education.

  • 19 MayLGBTIQ+ in European Higher Education | 13:00-14:30 (CEST) | online | Katharina Völsch (Marburg University) | Registration required | Register via adis@uni-maburg.de 
    • Katharina Völsch is an expert on LGBTIQ+ topics in Higher Education and head of the anti-discrimination and diversity office at Marburg University. She will give an insight about the experience of LGBTIQ+ students and staff in European Higher Education and about their rights and needs within the university.

  • 28 MayRefugees and asylum seekers in higher education | online | Donatella Loprieno (University of Calabria) | Registration required | Register via womenstudies@unical.it 
    • This seminar explores the inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers in higher education through the lens of UNICORE (University Corridors for Refugees), an Italian initiative supported by UNHCR and promoted by over 40 universities across the country. Drawing on national experiences, it examines how university corridors provide refugee students with access to degree programmes, scholarships, and legal pathways to study.
