European school internships showcase how EUPeace incorporates internationalisation into teacher education. Combining mobility, intercultural learning and professional practice, it enables future teachers to develop inclusive, multilingual and Europe-oriented teaching competencies.
What’s the objective?
European school internships aim to internationalise teacher education, enhance students’ professional and intercultural competencies, strengthen cooperation with European schools and incorporate mobility and inclusion as fundamental components of initial teacher training.
Who’s it for?
Especially pre-service and in-service teachers, teacher educators and international relations staff profit from European school internships. Other possible target audiences are partner schools, school mentors, and European University Alliance coordinators.
How are we doing this?
Our approach to European school internships is grounded in co-design between universities and schools, supported by structured learning agreements, mentoring, reflective tools and shared quality criteria. This modular, adaptable approach ensures transferability across institutions and national contexts.
The implementation process for European school internships involved mapping partner schools, aligning curricula, defining internship frameworks, providing student support before, during and after mobility, and coordinating activities in our work packages. Clear milestones and shared templates support the effective replication of the project in other Alliances.
What’s the outcome?
European school internships increased participation in international school internships and strengthened partnerships between universities and schools. Students reported greater confidence and improved their intercultural skills. Overall, mobility was more effectively embedded in teacher education curricula, meeting the objectives of the initiative.
