Members of the EUPeace Alliance are invited to take part in the online workshop Open Access Publishing and the Open Access Policy of JLU, offered by Justus Liebig University Giessen on 7 July 2026 from 10:00 to 11:30 CEST. The workshop is open to all interested members of the Alliance, including doctoral candidates, researchers and staff, and will be held in English.

What is Open Access?

Open Access means unrestricted online access to scholarly journal literature. The workshop will explain how Open Access publishing can increase the visibility, accessibility and citability of research, and why it has become a particularly important publishing model in the life sciences.

Publication routes and practical examples

Participants will receive an overview of the scholarly publishing process and the main routes to Open Access. This includes the “golden road” through Open Access journals such as PLoS and BioMedCentral, and the “green road” through disciplinary or institutional repositories such as PubMed Central.

Funding and policy at JLU

The workshop will also introduce participants to the Open Access publishing fund and the Open Access policy of Justus Liebig University Giessen. It is offered within the Doctoral Development Programme of the International Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL), and opens practical Open Science training to the broader EUPeace community.
