Joint Activities

Joint Activities are what happens when a university and the institutions around it start organising things together. Across four countries, EUPeace universities co-design events and programmes with public ministries and agencies around real local needs.

Within the EUPeace Living Peace Lab, Joint Activities are events and programmes designed and delivered with external partners — public administrations, development agencies, and ministries — rather than presented to them. Each one is anchored in a real local need, and most are hosted by the partner rather than by the university.

They are one of the three Bridge Formats, and the one that most often turns a conversation into a standing working relationship. Activities delivered so far are listed below, most recent first.

Community Engagement Fair – Marburg University

 📍 Marburg, Germany. Held twice a year together with the city’s volunteer agency (Freiwilligenagentur), the fair introduces students to local organisations looking for volunteers and gives student-led community engagement initiatives a public platform.

Digital Activism that Builds: Positive Cyberactivism against Racism

 📍 Madrid, Spain. Hosted at the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration with the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE). Experts examined how positive cyberactivism can counter racism online, and how awareness, education and civic engagement build more inclusive digital spaces.

Image Theatre workshop with Border Crossings – Çukurova University

 📍 Adana, Turkey. Delivered with the UK theatre company Border Crossings as part of the Tier 2 soft skills course Culture of Peace and Transformative Communication, using Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed methods to explore conflict and voice through performance.

Menstrual justice as a question of rights — session with Konuşmamız Gerek – Çukurova University

 📍 Adana, Turkey. Run with the association Konuşmamız Gerek (“We Need to Talk”) as part of the Tier 2 soft skills course Culture of Peace and Transformative Communication. Following an introduction to the human rights framework, interactive workshops addressed menstrual stigma and period poverty as issues of education, equality and rights.

Nel cuore del viaggio: Migrazioni, Memoria, Resistenza – University of Calabria

📍 Rende, Italy. A multidisciplinary exhibition on migration, memory and resistance, created by the co-creation team formed at the Living Lab’s first idea-generation session and presented during the University’s National Day.

Un passo avanti per la vita — HPV screening and women’s health – University of Calabria

 📍 Rende, Italy. A public event on HPV prevention and women’s health bringing together public institutions, healthcare professionals, researchers and civil society. Free screening was offered on the day, turning dialogue and research into direct benefit for the local community.

From Volunteering to Societal Development – Çukurova University

 📍 Adana, Turkey. Co-organised with and hosted by the Çukurova Development Agency. Interactive sessions covered volunteering, personal competences, design thinking and social project development; in the afternoon, mixed teams of students and public-sector staff worked up their own volunteering projects.

Interactive Experience Sharing for Trainers – Çukurova University

 📍 Adana, Turkey. A two-day programme for the university’s Community of Practice of instructors teaching service-learning courses, delivered by the Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) with technical support secured from the Çukurova Development Agency. It strengthened teaching staff capacity to design and run high-quality community engagement courses.
