Gianluigi Greco, Full Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, has assumed the leadership of the University of Calabria with the aim of strengthening the University’s scientific, innovative, and international vocation. His established experience in research, Artificial Intelligence, and technology transfer, together with his involvement in major European initiatives such as the EUPeace Alliance, constitutes a key asset for the strategic development of the institution.
Professor Greco has served as Director of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 2018 to 2025 and as a member of the Academic Senate, where he coordinated the Teaching Committee. He also led the “PRO3” Committee, responsible for defining and monitoring the University’s strategic policies.
A Strong Track Record in Artificial Intelligence and Academic Leadership
With over 200 scientific publications in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Professor Greco has received numerous international accolades, including the AAIA and EurAI Fellowships and prestigious awards such as the IJCAI Distinguished Paper Award. He is an Associate Editor of the international journal Artificial Intelligence and, since 2022, has been President of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA). Currently, he coordinates the task force responsible for updating the national Artificial Intelligence strategy established at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as well as the CRUI’s ICT Commission.
Long committed to technology transfer and innovation, he coordinates projects involving industrial and institutional partners and is among the key promoters of the Tech4You ecosystem, the Digital Innovation Hub Calabria, and several university spin-offs.
