Festival Frontiere 2026 opens at the University of Calabria with EUPeace Living Lab on repopulation

The third edition of Festival Frontiere will take place in Cosenza from 19 to 23 May 2026, opening with a day dedicated to repopulation at the University of Calabria. The programme includes a EUPeace Living Lab exploring future pathways for territorial regeneration.

The third edition of Festival Frontiere, promoted by Migrantes and Caritas of the Archdiocese of Cosenza-Bisignano, will take place in Cosenza from 19 to 23 May 2026, in collaboration with the University of Calabria and the Municipality of Cosenza, and with the support of Fondazione Migrantes and Fondazione Carical. The opening day on 19 May will be hosted at the University of Calabria and will focus on the theme Frontiers & Repopulation.

Addressing depopulation in Calabria

The event will bring together participants to reflect on depopulation trends and explore opportunities for social and territorial regeneration, particularly in small municipalities and inland areas of Calabria. The morning programme includes the theatre performance Fate i Tuoni at the TAU Theatre Auditorium, aimed at school audiences.

Sharing experiences and local practices

In the afternoon, an expert discussion at the Aula Studio C24 (Ponte Pietro Bucci) will provide an analysis of depopulation dynamics and present experiences from municipalities that are experimenting with regeneration through inclusion and reception practices. These contributions aim to highlight concrete approaches that can support sustainable repopulation.

EUPeace Living Lab: co-creating future perspectives

The day will conclude with a participatory laboratory organised within the framework of EUPeace. The Living Lab will engage participants in co-creating future-oriented visions and developing ideas for new forms of collaboration between universities, public administrations and civil society. The activity aims to foster innovative approaches to counter depopulation and promote new forms of habitability across territories.
