Event description:
The seminar “Cinema and inclusion. The participatory method in social documentaries” offers a theoretical reflection on the role of participatory video as a tool for expression, storytelling, and inclusion.
Starting from the experience gained in the cinema project held at the SAI MSNA La Casa di Abou Diabo reception center in Acri (CS), the seminar aims to illustrate how the PVcode method can be used to activate collective storytelling processes through audiovisual language.
PVcode (Participatory Video for Community Development) is an approach to participatory video that uses audiovisual language as a tool for expression, communication, and collective analysis. Participants are not only filmed subjects, but authors of the creative process.

During the seminar, the following will be presented:

  • The principles of the PVcode method, based on a co-creation approach between authors and participants.
  • The workshop structure adopted in the La Casa di Abou Diabo project, with excerpts from audiovisual materials (photos, videos, and sequences from the documentary produced).
  • A reflection on the impact that this method can have in educational, reception, or community contexts as a tool for promoting self-narration and self-representation.

The aim is to offer a perspective on how documentary filmmaking can become a means for building shared identities and activating practices of citizenship and inclusion.
The seminar includes a short screening of photo and video material produced in the workshop and on set, followed by a group discussion to encourage the exchange of ideas on possible applications of the method in other contexts.
