Summary
In the Heart of the Journey: Migration, Memory, Resistance (Nel Cuore del Viaggio. Migrazioni, Memoria, Resistenza) is an initiative developed at the University of Calabria, within the EUPeace Living Lab. The project encourages critical reflection on the migration experience and its social, human, and environmental dimensions, contributing to challenging stereotypes and promoting knowledge through accessible artistic forms such as illustration, comics, and photography.
The first action of the co-created team is a multidisciplinary exhibition hosted at the RiMuseum – Environmental Museum of the UNICAL Museum System, inaugurated on 20 March 2026 within the Italian National Day of Universities (GNU). The event includes workshops on contemporary migration led by UNICAL professors, the presentation of the artistic exhibitions, and the production of a podcast created together with students from the Media and Digital Society degree programme.
The exhibitions include “Tavole di Viaggio: Storie Migranti a Fumetti” (Travel Panels: Migrant Stories in Comics), developed in collaboration with the Casa di Abou Diabo residential community for migrants and the Museo del Fumetto di Cosenza (Comic Museum of Cosenza). The exhibition is accompanied by a photographic section curated by the association Ladri di Luce, showing “Anime in Transito” (Souls in Transit), dedicated to the faces and stories of migrants, and “Anime in Attesa” (Souls in Waiting), which shifts the focus to stray animals and the broader theme of vulnerability and displacement.
The initiative involves a network of public and private partners, including the University of Calabria, the Municipality of Rende, Casa di Abou Diabo, the Comic Museum of Cosenza, and the Ladri di Luce Association.
Project Results
Results will be published as soon as they have been reviewed, consolidated, and made available through the EUPeace network for the benefit of all participating communities.
