Reflecting on the EUPeace Summer School 2026: What Does It Mean to Be a Teacher Today?

From 22 to 26 June 2026, the University of Limoges hosted the EUPeace Summer School on teacher education, bringing together around 60 participants from across Europe to explore the evolving role of teachers in today's societies.

From 22–26 June 2026, the University of Limoges hosted the EUPeace Summer School “What Does It Mean to Be a Teacher Today?”, bringing together around 60 participants from across Europe. Future teachers, experienced educators, researchers, and experts met in Bugeat, France, to exchange ideas and reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing education today.

Over five inspiring days, participants took part in a rich programme combining keynote talks, collaborative workshops, intercultural discussions, and networking opportunities. Topics such as inclusion, teacher attractiveness, Universal Design for Learning, and diversity management encouraged everyone to reflect on the evolving role of teachers in today’s societies.

A Welcoming and Engaged Community

Beyond the academic content, what truly stood out throughout the week was the atmosphere. The Summer School was marked by a very positive and welcoming spirit, with active engagement from both students and colleagues. Discussions continued far beyond the workshops, with participants enthusiastically sharing experiences, perspectives, and ideas from their own educational contexts.

The interactive format encouraged everyone to contribute and learn from one another. Participants were not simply attending sessions; they were actively shaping them through dialogue and collaboration. This high level of participation created meaningful exchanges and highlighted the value of international and intercultural learning.

Connections Beyond the Classroom

The week was also punctuated by many enjoyable and informal moments that strengthened connections between participants. These convivial moments helped create a strong sense of community and made the experience even more memorable.

The Summer School ultimately demonstrated that being a teacher today means much more than transmitting knowledge. Teachers are facilitators, mediators, and agents of inclusion who help shape the societies of tomorrow. The EUPeace Summer School once again highlighted how international collaboration and human connections can play a key role in preparing educators for these challenges.

It is all set for one — and possibly two — EUPeace seasonal schools in teacher education in spring 2027.
