EUPeace promotes peace education through local initiatives in France

EUPeace took part in the Foutez Nous la Paix festival in Saint-Junien on 10 October 2026, followed by workshops on children’s rights led by Maida Salkanović of Sarajevo’s War Childhood Museum. The activities connected the European university alliance’s commitment to peace with local schools and communities.

Giving students a voice for peace

On 10 October 2026, EUPeace attended the inauguration of the Foutez Nous la Paix festival in Saint-Junien, France. During the event, a student read the EUPeace Student Peace Declaration, relaying EUPeace students voice in promoting peace and reflecting on the challenges of violence and conflict.

Based in Saint-Junien, the association Foutez Nous la Paix promotes peace by encouraging public discussion of violence, wars and conflicts, past, present and future. Its work provides a local setting for conversations about peace and the role individuals and communities can play in building it.

Exploring children’s rights through education

On 16 October, EUPeace invited Maida Salkanović, Head of Communications at the War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo, to lead workshops on children’s rights with 70 children from three classes at a school in Saint-Victurnien, France. Drawing on the museum’s work documenting the experiences of children affected by war, the workshops offered pupils an opportunity to explore children’s rights and consider the impact of conflict on young people’s lives.

Connecting local action with EUPeace’s mission

These activities brought peace education beyond the university setting, creating opportunities for students and school pupils to engage with questions of peace, conflict and human rights. By connecting local initiatives with expertise from the War Childhood Museum and the festival Foutez Nous la Paix, EUPeace contributed to making these issues accessible to younger audiences and supporting reflection on the importance of protecting children’s rights in times of conflict.
