The one-day Open Science Train-the-Trainer Retreat on 2 November 2026 in Marburg invites educators to exchange approaches, develop their teaching practice and work on concrete ideas for their own courses and supervision. Organised by the Open Science Initiative University Marburg (OSIUM), the event will explore how Open Science, data literacy and coding skills can become a stronger part of higher education teaching.
Three areas for open and digital research practice
The retreat focuses on three areas: Open Science, including transparency, reproducibility and collaboration in research; data literacy, covering the collection, analysis and presentation of data; and coding competence, with a focus on programming and software skills relevant to research.
From exchange to practical teaching ideas
Designed as an unconference, the event gives participants an active role in shaping the programme. During the morning, participants will exchange teaching ideas, experiences and approaches. The afternoon provides time to work on self-selected projects and translate these discussions into practical strategies and materials for their own teaching. An online kick-off meeting on 19 October will help participants prepare for the retreat.
The event is aimed at educators who are new to these topics as well as those who already integrate Open Science and digital research skills into their teaching. By bringing educators together to share practices and develop concrete teaching approaches, the retreat supports the wider goal of strengthening Open Science skills in higher education.
