Students, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers are invited to a two-part online workshop on 10 and 15 September 2026 exploring the principles and practical application of Open Science and pre-registration. Led by Prof. Dr Ulrike Gisch of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), the workshop will introduce participants to transparent and reproducible research practices and provide an opportunity to create their own pre-registration using the Open Science Framework (OSF).
Understanding transparent and reproducible research
The first session introduces key principles of Open Science and examines challenges that can affect the reliability of research, including publication bias, selective reporting and questionable research practices. Participants will explore approaches such as Open Access, Open Data, Open Materials and Open Code, as well as the role of pre-registration and Registered Reports in making research processes more transparent.
From principles to practice
The second session focuses on how pre-registration can be used in practice. Participants will learn about different forms of pre-registration, discuss common challenges and work together on a mini pre-registration in the OSF. The workshop will also provide space to consider both the opportunities and limitations of integrating pre-registration into different research contexts.
Strengthening Open Science skills
The workshop is open to students and researchers from all disciplines, whether they are new to Open Science or would like to make pre-registration a more regular part of their research practice. By combining an introduction to Open Science with practical application, the workshop supports the development of skills for more transparent, traceable and reproducible research and aligns with EUPeace’s wider efforts to strengthen Open Science education across the Alliance.
How to take part
The workshop is offered by the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN) at JLU and led by Prof. Dr Ulrike Gisch. Both sessions take place online and are held in English. Participation for members of the EUPeace universities is free of charge and registration is open until 9 September.
